Using Your Fan and Air Conditioner in Genoa

The weather is finally warming up and soon you may have to change over to your air conditioner. Along with scheduling your annual air conditioner service with the team at Assured Appliance and Heating & Air, there are a number of other items you can do to remain cozy and save money this month.

During the transition season in Genoa, those far too few spring temperatures, you may use ceiling fans to keep cozy. Did you know that using your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner may not only keep you more cozy during the warmer days, but also save you money? In order to do that you have to ensure you’re taking advantage of ceiling fans and your air conditioning properly. Here’s a couple things to note:

Raise Your Thermostat

This is where the cost savings can have the chance to come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving on your expenses. Raising your thermostat by a few degrees, in addition to running your ceiling fan, shouldn’t change your comfort level too much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re decreasing the duration of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner.

Adjust Air Direction

Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to adjust according to the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to make sure the air is blowing down. You can stand below the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, change the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually decrease the air temperature, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than the temperature shown on the thermostat.

Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There

Treat your ceiling fan like you do lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to benefit from the wind chill that a fan provides you’re wasting energy by operating your fan. Keep in mind, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
