Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s circulated around your home. This liquid is found within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants used for many, many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being replaced because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be in production. Introducing R-410A Recognized by the EPA, R-410A is a chlorine-free and ozone-friendly refrigerant. This means it will keep your AC running cool without hurting the environment. Even better news, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system perform efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for reliability, quiet operation and better dehumidification, so you can stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Assured Appliance and Heating & Air in Genoa, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If your system was made before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
